I was thinking of clothes as I gave away with some reluctance a nice top that had belonged to my mom. It was turquoise which is my favourite colour. Unfortunately it was too small and I could not see myself fitting into it any time soon.
When my mom was moving out of her house in Lachute I helped to go through her clothes. There were some that she would not wear again - like a wool suit.
When she was in the convalescent home and then the retirement home and then the nursing home, she wore comfortable pants and tops.
I found it a difficult trip to the Salvation Army thrift store to give away her clothes after she died.
I did keep a few things - a couple of nice jackets that she made. One in particular was quite complicated with a lining. I feel close to her when I wear the cozy dressing gown that I gave her some years ago.
I find that since I retired I am wearing more comfortable clothes. Even when dressing up I am wearing pants and a nice top.
