Dalai Lama

He recently celebrated his 75th birthday. There were special programs on Vision TV which were quite interesting.

I did not know much about the history of Tibet - that it was not recognized as a separate country before it was taken over by China in the 1950s.

The Dalai Lama had an interesting childhood being trained for his position. He liked to be out and about so that the people could see him. He left Tibet in the 1950s.

He has a gentle warm smile and laughs a lot. He also speaks very well in English.

There was an ad for his visit to Toronto in October. Of course there is a Web site and also a Facebook page.

I am sure that he could never have imagined all of this but there have been lots of changes too in my world since the 1950s.
