I have been watching the excellent series by David Starkey entitled - Monarchy. It starts with Alfred the Great and goes right up to the present. I do not think TV Ontario is showing the last episode - post Queen Victoria.
I remember some of the ins and outs of the royal family from my school history lessons a few years ago. They are always looking for an heir. To get George I - a Protestant - they had to bypass 50 other relations of Queen Anne.
In the part about the American Revolution I thought about the United Empire Loyalists who moved to Canada. My mom’s sister’s husband’s family came up to the Eastern Townships of Quebec at that time.
There was mention of the Battle of Waterloo and I thought of my dad being close to there during World War II.
The date 1816 was mentioned - 100 years before my mom was born.
Of course I am always interested in Queen Victoria. She had so many children. Her husband Prince Albert was quite an interesting character. I thought of the Victoria and Albert Museum which my mom and I visited in London.
