Social networking

Just after I retired last fall I took a very interesting course on Social Networking. It was interesting to me personally even though the other folks in the course were talking about how they might apply various tools at work.

Blogs of course - or else I would not be writing this. I also like to read some regularly. I find it fun to read a blog by someone I know in real life - or should I be saying IRL. There are a number that share their spiritual life and are much a source of encouragement. Another one that is lots of fun is written by a donkey friend. I do not think Abra will get her own blog any time soon but she may write a few postings on mine. Her fan club needs to keep up with her activities!

I use Google Reader for my RSS feeds. The topics I like are church and horse and food and local Ottawa related.

I go to Youtube for entertainment for worship music, more traditional and classical music, horses, cartoons. When I hear about some music or song I often find it there.

I have been reading and posting at special message boards for a long time. I shared a lot with folks on the Touched By an Angel Message Board that is now defunct. I do share some on the Weight Watchers Nifty 50s Board. I read the Equestrian Management Group forums. I have not got into sharing there yet but I may do so soon.

Occasionally I receive an email inviting me to be friends with someone on Facebook. I do not spend a lot of time there. My friends are some folks that I know IRL and also friends I have met online.

It is very interesting to see how folks use all these applications. I find that realistically I only have time to keep up with a couple and that is enough for me. I do not think I will be joining the Anglican community at Second Life any time soon. I like the idea that the course leader suggested for the participants to share what applications they had been using.
