Shopping for a horse

I do not think I have really had to do this in the past. My first horse - Cari - was there for me. I had known for a long time - since she was 1/2 hour old. I only really bought her just before my dad died but we had become well acquainted over the 6 years before that.

Bishop was waiting for me when I was ready for a second horse. He was there at the right time.

Now it is all different. I did some Internet research related to the Canadian horse and I came up with various possibilities. I told everyone what I was looking for and what my riding experience was and what I would be doing with a new horsey friend.

I have already made several trips to the country to look at horses. Now I know what I do not want to buy or pursue any further. Then there are some that I do want to pursue.

There is a whole process of knowing what you want, seeing the horse, seeing the horse being ridden, riding the horse yourself, deciding that this is the horse for you and then making important inquiries about the horse's health. A check by a vet is much recommended - just like getting a house inspection.

It is exciting but sort of scary too. Horses cost lots of money and need lots of care but that is my hobby and I have been doing it for a long time.

So onto the next steps, more information to follow as the process unfolds.
