Stillness and hearing

This must be about the blog entries I am reading this morning as I have my breakfast beside my computer - a very nice way to start my day.

I can hear the birds chirping - time to be up and about.

I can hear the traffic from the highway in the distance - especially with my windows open to catch an early morning breeze.

My computer is quiet - except for an occasional clicking or humming. It is doing what it is doing.

Outside it is quiet too. Later on there will be traffic on my street as folks go out and about their day’s activities. It will be nosier still with the garbage and recycling trucks doing their thing.

I may hear an occasional woof from my neighbour’s puppies. I will not hear the kids next door outside playing. They have gone away for an extended family holiday.

The stillness is another matter. I need to relish the time of slowing down in the summer - when regular activities are cut back some - but I still have plenty to do.
