The long weekend when gardening activities can happen. I would like to get my few plant pots of bright flowers before the big weekend rush.
It has been so wet. I have cut my grass twice and it needs to be done again - when it stops raining. My trees are coming into leaf.
Summer clothes are appearing in my cupboard and winter ones are being washed and put away.
My furnace is resting. My gas fireplace still has the pilot light lit - at least for a little while longer. On a cool morning it will be a cozy place to be beside. My dehumidifier is all ready for action.
Windows are open more often than not.
It is nice to be able to step out the door without gloves and hats and boots - but probably a light jacket and an umbrella.

Spring into spring
When I returned from Toronto after only a few days, I noticed that the grass and the trees had made lots of progress. Everything was looking a lot greener. I actually gave my grass its first cut of the season the other day.
I have put away most of my winter clothes. I am finding my light jackets and sweaters.
I have also changed my riding clothes. It is sometimes cool in the morning but as I get going I am able to take off a few layers.
My car is all ready for spring and summer. I have even put away my winter floor mats - heavy duty for mud, etc. from the barn and the horse activities.
My furnace is going on and off - just at night.
I had my last fire in the fireplace for the season. This wood I have now burns quite slowly so there is lots left in my garage.
Abracadabra is springing into spring too - but that is another tale (or tail) as she would say.

Sights and sounds of spring: past and present
Walking through my neighbourhood.
I see left over leaves from the fall and maybe some garbage blown into them.
Trees and grass and other flowering things - this is still waiting to happen.
*****
I can see my mom out in the garden - tidying up and planning.
After this outdoor activity, getting cleaned up and changed.
Maybe some sewing in her little room or knitting by the TV.
Later on, completing her Montreal Gazette crossword puzzle at her big desk.
Looking at her calendar for the next week's activities.
- Curling Club closing - any prizes?
- bridge game
- trip to Walmart
Later on there are preparations for dinner which is heated up in the toaster oven.
A glass of sherry and a gripping library mystery book - all shared in her favourite chair.
After supper and watching Coronation Street and Jeopardy, tidying up and turning off the lights.
A leisurely bath and then reading in bed and then good night.

Spring activities
I have been cleaning up and putting away my winter boots.
I have been cleaning up and putting away some of my winter riding clothes. It is still sort of chilly in the morning when I go to ride early.
I have been opening more windows during the day. I noticed my neighbour was doing the same.
I have been raking the grass which is quite messy with garbage, etc.
Out the back of my house it seems to be turning green a bit.
Abracadabra thinks so - she has tried to munch on it when I was leading her out to the field to be with her horsy friends.
****
The weather is warming up quite nicely.
Ottawa on Saturday - 25 degrees.
Toronto on Saturday - 24 degrees.
I will take either one of those.
Do I need to take my hat and gloves to Toronto? I do not think so.

It is spring ...almost
My indoor plants are growing.
The snow is going.
Abracadabra is losing her winter coat.
I am putting away some winter clothes.
My neighbour will soon have birds in her bird houses.
I saw some geese at the barn.
Walter will be back next week from his winter vacation to feed them.

Getting ready
Am I getting ready for spring and summer? I think so. I have put away some of my winter clothes including some riding clothes - it is just getting too warm.
My furnace has been off and on - sometimes it is a bit cool in the house in the morning.
My grass has started to turn green. Lawn care companies have appeared at my door wanting to aerate it. Much will be replaced in May so I say - no thanks. I have to get my hoses in order to do lots of watering with some new sod.
My new eaves trough is keeping busy during various rain events. I hope they are doing their job of getting the water away from my house.
I am continuing to get flowers organized for the church. I have brought home a lot of dead ones that have been sent on their way to the city’s composting. They were just too much for my own composter.
I am getting organized for my trip to the convent in Toronto. I am trying to fit in various activities before I go - several visits to Abracadabra, dinner with a friend, coffee with another friend, chats with my neighbour and her new puppy, etc.
House cleaning is on my list as well. I want to do a major clean before the hot weather hits. It is certainly satisfying to get it done if not during the process.

Spring coming?
Spring says Abracadabra - I hope it is coming soon. There is more spring in my step these days - at least my mom says so. I am looking forward to green grass and other good stuff outside. My mom says I can forget about playing in the mud that comes between the snow melting and the grass growing. We will see…
*****
The days are definitely getting longer. Daylight Savings Time is coming in a couple of weeks.
The temperatures are rising and the snow is melting - at least some of the time.
I am looking forward to Easter.
I am looking forward to walking outside more again.
I like to put on my CD of Appalachian Spring by Aaron Copeland - wonderful music. A bit too complicated to post the YouTube video - it is so long it comes in various parts. It is easy to find there.
