Familiar sayings and things

From Hetty Wainthrop - a delightful British series.

She has not run off to Middlesbrough. That is where my mom’s mom was from.

Playing with someone’s toes. I have not thought of this nursery rhyme in years.

This little piggy went to market,
This little piggy stayed home,
This little piggy had roast beef,
This little piggy had none,
And this little piggy cried,
"Wee, wee, wee."
All the way home.

The door on the lock locked like the one at the back door on the Lachute house.

The brown teapot on the table looked liked Mom Billingham’s at Wal Ken Farms in Lachute.

*****

From Agatha Christie’s Poirot.

Hold the castle - says Poirot - he means - hold the fort.

“If you hold the fort, you look after something or assume someone's responsibilities while they are away.”

He is known to use interesting expressions. When someone asks whether he is French, he says no - I am Belgian.
