“Another Anglican church I attend on Wednesday mornings and monthly for a women's breakfast is going through major changes as well. I can see a big change coming there. I know lots of people there and I have a couple of close friends there. What will change? What will I feel about the changes? All of this will unfold.”
A year later and the situation has unfolded as well as what I feel about the changes. There was an official vote to leave the Anglican Church of Canada and join the Anglican Network in Canada.
I have always St. George's to be a warm and welcoming community. It is a good place to stop by and pray quietly as I used to do when I lived nearby. I enjoy going to special events at the church. I know lots of people who worshipped there and some still do.
I am not in discussion with friends there about what their status means. Our conversations particularly on Wednesday mornings continue to be very cordial.
It makes me stop and think about what really matters and what I want to spend time reflecting on and living out my faith story. When people ask me how I can be involved in two churches with completely different emphases - I say that it is not a problem for me. When there are controversial issues being discussed I listen and try to figure out what I think and feel rather than having a confrontation.
My friends at St. George’s know that this is not parish home. They do not treat me any differently than they did before. I am quite welcome on a Wednesday morning and the Saturday morning women’s breakfast group that meets once a month. I have some good friends who attend St. George's and are much involved there.
