Abracadabra: August 2009

It has been hot, hot, hot. I know my ancestors lived in the desert and did alright but I prefer to live in a nice barn and in the fields of course. That lifestyle suits me well.

I have been sampling the vegetation in different fields. I have been known to chew on the leaves of a small bush - they make for an interesting addition to my diet.

I have been seeing lots of small people this summer. They are the camp kids. They do admire me.

My mom brought some friends to meet me and admire me too. I posed for some pictures. I think that my ears cooperated better than last time.

With the wet weather my mom has had to ride me inside sometimes. I remember one day in particular. It was getting very dark and there were loud booming noises in the distance. It was thunder. When the storm came closer, the whole arena shook. I heard some strange siren noises. This was too much even for me and I jumped around a little and my mom had to pat me and calm me down. One of the long time horses in residence told me after that the sirens were from the airport that is close by where I live. It is to make sure that the planes do not take off when there is lightening. I was glad when that day was over - there was too much excitement for me. I prefer a quieter life.

When my mom has been riding me outside we often have to find our way around or through the mud puddles. There have been lots of them. I try not to slip around too much.

There is lots of bushes and trees and grass growing this year with all the rain we have had. Sometimes I start to wonder whether there is a fierce wild animal hiding out in the clump of bushes. My mom has to divert my attention.

So when it has been hot, hot, hot my mom has used her my new sponge for a bath. It even has my name on it - Abra.

So after my bath I can take up my favourite resting position in my stall. One foot is relaxed and my head goes way down and my eyes are half closed. This is almost as good as lying down.

Until next time when it is hopefully cooler,

Love Abracadabra
