Abracadabra July 12, 2009

It has been a while since I have written about my activities but my life has not been at all boring. There is always something happening.

The vet came to see me a couple of times. I was given a couple of injections to help keep me healthy. They did not hurt at all. I am so brave.

Now that it is summer there are a number of younger folks around the barn for summer camp. They may look at me and admire me but that is all. That is alright with me.

I am outside now at night and inside during the day. I have been known to lie down and have a little nap in the morning - except when my mom comes to ride me.

My mom has to come and catch me in the field if she wants to ride me early in the day. I am quite willing to come with her especially when she brings me some pieces of carrots or apples. My mom does not like to walk through the mud and there is plenty of that this summer.

My cantering lessons are somewhat of a distant memory. My mom is still helping me to canter properly when she asks me. I do like the outside rings better than the inside arena for this activity. However I think I am making progress.

Some of the new pictures of me on the blog were taken by Kathi when she came to meet me in May. My ears did nor cooperate for these pictures - it seems that people like to have them pointed nicely in a forward direction. Next time they will have to bribe me with some goodies.

I know my mom has pictures of me in her purse - she is known to show them to many of her friends. They think that I am cute.

My mom has been riding me in the back ring. It is nice and sandy except when it is muddy. I have also been in the jump field a few times. This is where I have met some Canada geese. I think they prefer to swim in the ponds.

My mom finally gave me a bath using a hose. I did not tell her but I had met a hose many times in my past and it was not scary at all.

Now a new friend has been riding me from time to time. He even took me out on the track. I liked to move quickly when I was out there. The next time he put a different kind of bit in my mouth. I am not sure whether I liked it too much. It was something to do with getting me to slow down.

Anyway he also gave me a bath and that felt nice. What felt nice as well is when I was able to roll in the sand right after the bath. Some words were mumbled in my direction about being a silly horse but I paid no attention and I just wandered off to my field to join my horsy friends.

Not too long ago I had a nice encounter with my mom. I had not seen her in a few days. Then I saw her come by my stall where I was resting before my nightly expedition to the field. Did she bring any snacks for me to eat? I gave her a gentle whinny to let her know I was pleased to see her. She was impressed by this. She did bring me some carrots.

*****

Life is treating me well and I am glad that I came to live at Greenbelt in Ottawa and have a new mom.

There are always adventures happening to me and I will tell you more next time.

Love from Abracadabra - 7 years old now.
