Soon we will be seeing an Easter cross like this at St. John’s. Some artistic members of the congregation take on the decoration. The connection with Christmas is very real - the cross was made of 2 pieces from a real Christmas tree. On Good Friday the plain cross without any decoration is used in the church.
I was also thinking of another connection. I was tidying up in the sacristy and found a bunch of palm branches from last Palm Sunday. Some of them had been burned to make the ashes that are used for Ash Wednesday.
The images from Christmas and Ash Wednesday and Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday take on new meaning with these visible connections.
