Church family

Church family - this is how Doreen signed her notes and cards. She was very much part of the St. John’s church family. She died a year ago and her husband Jack a few years before. I can almost see them sitting in the pew in front of me.

Then there was Jan - a delightful woman with a gentle Southern accent. She died after a long bout with cancer. She was much supported by the church community.

Then Ken who was much involved in the church with his wife Phyllis. They left St. John’s and ended up attending a church that was closer to where they were living. He was very tall and she was short. They made an interesting couple. At his funeral, his favourite pies were served at the reception - what a nice touch. Phyllis is still a close friend and we keep in touch often.

Now Henry has died. He was very much part of the church family. He had just passed his 94th birthday. I am sure that I saw him at church just last Sunday.

I do like the newer tradition of having white as a liturgical colour for funerals. It speaks of celebration.

So on Tuesday morning the church family will gather again to say goodbye to another member.

RIP all you faithful church members.
