Getting ready for a new horse

My carrot bin has been empty for some weeks now. It is all washed and ready for a bunch of horse carrots.

I have cleaned and oiled my saddle and bridle and halter.

I have washed my saddle pad and the winter blanket. It still needs some minor repairs - Bishop must have been playing with the ties on it.

I had some nice trips in the country to look at some Canadian horses. I saw a couple of very interesting stables. There were 2 young Canadian mares - 2 and 3 - that were really sweet. Unfortunately for this time in my life they are too young for me.

I could have looked further afield for another Canadian but I really did not want to. Folks on various Internet sites had some good suggestions.

So I will end up with a new horse companion who is 6-8 old and easy going. Walter at the barn is going horse shopping soon and he has my requirements in mind.

I realized the other day that I miss the horse routine in my life. Now that I am retired I was riding 3 times a week. It is not just the riding. It is making space for this activity in my life. My schedule revolves around it.

I value the friendly support from many of my friends in the loss of Bishop. I have much appreciated the hugs and cards and emails and phone calls. It helps me to remember him fondly.

So before too long I hope I will have an announcement about a new horse friend who has come to share my life.
